Overated Hoagies and too crowded
by PAPhil at Citysearch
Lets start off...White House serves very good hoagies(im from Philly..I call them hoagies :)
Problem is that I can get a better hoagie at even a Primo chain so I ask myself why the heck would I wait in that line?(All four of my friends had the same opinion) Its nice to go their once in a blue moon but not very practical.
The one thing going for White House is the sheer size of the hoagies....I will say they are a beauty to look at. The execution seemed to be off to me....meat wasn't sliced thin enough...and while the roll was very good I have had better
I still think this place gets the rave reviews more due to the sheer size of the hoagies... I still say Primo's has better rolls and the meat is sliced thinner which is HUGE.
- Pros: Big hoagies
- Cons: long lines...bit overrated
The Only Sub Sandwich....period.

Stand at the counter for take-out and watch bags and bags of fresh breads being brought in from the bakery down the street, this will be the absolute best bread that you will ever have in your life to be used for a sub sandwich. Order the special which is everything (and more of it) with lettuce, tomato, onion, oil and vinegar, and peppers. Now, here is the key to the whole thing, bring home these magificent sub sandwiches, wrap them in cling wrap first then aluminum foil, put them in your refrigerator for at least a day before eating them. This will let the meats and cheese along with the extras marinade together and soak into the wonderful sub roll. Each whole special sub can make 6-8 nice sized sandwiches. You will experience not only the best sub at the Jersey shore; but the best hoagie, grinder, poor boy, dagwood, or whatever you want to call it...in the country. PS...tell the sandwich maker at the counter that you are traveling with the sandwiches so that they can double wrap them in heavy butcher wrapping paper. PPS, while you are waiting for your number to be called, check out the photos on the wall. From Sinatra to Joe DiMaggio, everyone has had a sub at The White House; for 60 years, the quality and consistency have not been questioned.
- Pros: The only sub worth driving hours for.
- Cons: The long lines....but it's worth it anyway
Don't forget the breath mints ...

Huge super subs in a totally frenetic atmosphere. It's always crowded, the servers are usually grouchy (especially the ladies who work the counter) but what the hell ... you're not there for the atmosphere. The subs are tasty and fresh, and we always order them "all the way" (with everything on them but the kitchen sink.)
- Pros: Hey, it's not a buffet, and the subs are quick, filling and cheap. What more could you want ... on your way out of Atlantic City?
- Cons: Ladies who work the counter are gruff and grouchy. Don't forget to ask for lots of extra napkins.
