Beware- bad fish!!!. Went here on a popular night they promote, Wen. 1/2 price Sushi Night. On this unforgettable night, I got really bad food poison from the Salmon Sushi Rolls. I have been eating Sushi for years and never had a problem. I have always been a little worried about eating raw fish in the back of my mind but I never thought I would experience this at such a "high end" Restaurant. I am assuming that the fish was old or not refrigerated properly. After several attempts to contact them, via internet I was blocked from their facebook site. An Apology or sorry should have been in order here, especially from such an established place they portray themselves to be.
Good food but you will wait a while unless you slip the host some money. The food is great but be ready to wait, particularly if you put your name in to sit at one of the tables at the bar. You are told the wait is about an hour for a saturday night but it is ultimately two hours unless you slip the host or hostess some money. In fact, one time, we ended up waiting for hours and, finally, when we were seated we were advised that the kitchen was closed. The ownership should really prohibit employees from taking advantage of customers like this.
Good food, cold service..
I go a couple of times a year when I am in town. The food is pretty good most of the time. Yama's in Ventnor has better sushi, but Tomatoes is good.
As has been mentioned, the service is so-so. I go in there by my self and feel like like I am pretty much invisible. It seems that you have to be known or with somebody for the staff to notice you or treat you as a good customer. I go into Angeloni's or Dock's and I am always greeted warmly and treated well, even though they only see me five or six times a year.
Either way, Tomatoes is OK if you can put up with the so-so service. Just don't dine alone if you want to feel welcome.
Great Sushi, bad service. Best Sushi in SNJ; however, service is poor. The hostest in particular acts as if she is doing you a favor in seating you even when you are a regular. Needless to say, as a result i am no longer a regular.
okay. nice place to grab some very fresh sushi. Service isnt what it should be, but theyre always busy so to some extent I can understand. Always had good food there, service not so much- ignorant and sometimes clueless servers, loud and noisy, theyre always busy so they must be doing something right, maybe its just a trend
Best Sushi...great service!. I have eaten in many restaurants all over and Tomatoes is always the tops in my book! I absolutely love the sushi and the Chilean sea bass is the best I have eaten. The only problem I have is getting a reservation in the summer time. Make sure you give this one a try, you wont be dissapointed. Probably one of the most consistent restaurants around. Oh, and make sure you get the Keylime pie...its as good as Floridas!
good food but beware of service.
if you go there you should be aware of something the waitresses dont tell you about
you get a very nice "Free" salad with entrees - however they do not tell you in advance so you will order an / two appetizers. Consider yourself warned - no mention of salads on menus
